Difference between Forced Drafts vs. Induced Draft Cooling Tower

Over the years cooling towers have become very popular in almost all forms of industry. In the early forms of development, they were big and used a lot of space and resources to function. However, with modern technology, all that has changed.

These cooling towers are created specifically to meet the needs of different types of owners. They can be cost-effective and bulky, or carry a lot of loads but be prone to corrosion. It is therefore important to know about what are the different types of cooling towers that will suit your establishment.

In this article we will be talking about two types of cooling towers and compare them to pinpoint the difference between the two of them, induced draft cooling systems are known for its mechanical draft cooling tower. This method is considered by some as the more efficient way as it uses only half of what the forced draft cooling tower uses. The forced draft cooling tower is also known as a natural draft cooling tower.

This arrangement is draft through, where there is a fan that is placed on top of the air fills. Because of this, the air is drawn in, all with the help of the air intake mesh. The induced draft cooling system is presented in the market in a square or a round shape. It is also considered quieter than most other cooling towers.

Here are some of the points in which the two types of cooling towers can be compared for best possible selection for your industry:

  • Forced draft emphasizes on the chimney effect and air flow is natural whereas in the induced draft the drought of air is created mechanically by a fan.
  • The forced draft does not require using power except when pumping out the water. On the other hand, induced draft requires power to operate.
  • There is practically no maintenance when it comes to rotary equipment in case of forced draft cooling towers. Induced draft cooling towers have to have constant maintenance when it comes to rotary equipment.
  • Forced draft towers usually work with very low water loading for film fill and splash fills. It is applicable to tropical situations. Induced draft towers can readily operate at very high water loading speeds.
  • In cases of operating fill velocities, the induced draft systems have much higher operating skills than the forced draft systems.
  • Forced draft cooling towers can operate when the load that is available is right at the designed heat load. However, the induced draft cooling towers can operate at any given load conditions, making it better for load conditions.
  • The tower requires a greater area because the water loading is quite low, where the forced draft is considered. Compared to this the tower of induced draft requires smaller area.
It is also important to remember that environments also play a big role when it comes to picking the better cooling towers. Forced drafts do not do well in drier climates whereas the induced draft is perfectly fine in all weather conditions. There are wide range of Cooling Towers including Pultruded FRP Cooling Towers, FRP Cooling towers exporters, Induced Draft Cooling Tower, etc. So consider all factors before purchasing.
